Autonomous driving technology firm PlusAI has joined forces with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company to enhance safety and operational efficiency in the autonomous freight sector. The partnership will integrate Goodyear’s SightLine tire intelligence system with PlusAI’s SuperDrive™ virtual driver platform, combining real-time road data with autonomous vehicle control to optimize performance and reduce fleet operating costs.
SightLine, Goodyear’s proprietary technology, delivers continuous insights into tire health, road surface conditions, and friction levels through embedded sensors. When paired with PlusAI’s SuperDrive system, this data helps improve decision-making capabilities in autonomous trucks by offering real-time awareness of environmental and mechanical conditions. The collaboration is aimed at elevating reliability, safety, and performance in long-haul freight operations.
According to the companies, the partnership is a strategic step toward a 2027 commercial launch of factory-built autonomous trucks, beginning in the United States and expanding to Europe. These vehicles, powered by SuperDrive, will be developed and supported by leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), including TRATON GROUP, Hyundai, and IVECO, as part of a broader effort to enable scalable autonomous trucking solutions.
“By embedding sensors in tires, SightLine provides continuous data that enhances vehicle performance and safety,” said Chris Helsel, Goodyear’s Senior Vice President & Chief Technical Officer. He noted the collaboration with PlusAI marks a milestone in integrating tire intelligence into autonomous transport systems.
PlusAI, which has accumulated over five million miles of autonomous driving across the U.S., Europe, and Asia, continues to build on nearly a decade of experience in autonomous mobility. The company views its partnerships with major suppliers and OEMs as key to commercializing autonomous trucks at scale.
