Panasonic Energy and Mazda Motor have made an exciting announcement regarding their plans to engage in discussions for a potential partnership involving the supply of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs).
In a joint statement, the companies revealed that Panasonic Energy, a unit of Panasonic Holdings Corp, would serve as the supplier of automotive cylindrical lithium-ion batteries manufactured in Japan and North America. These batteries are intended for use in Mazda’s upcoming lineup of battery EVs, which are set to hit the market in the latter half of the 2020s.
Kazuo Tadanobu, President and CEO of Panasonic Energy, expressed his optimism about the collaboration, stating, “As the automotive industry rapidly advances electrification and takes the lead in this technology, partnering with Mazda will be a major step towards realizing our mission of achieving a society where the pursuit of happiness and a sustainable environment are harmonized.
