Opel, one of the 14 automotive brands owned by Stellantis, will be the sole representative of the group at the upcoming IAA Mobility event in Munich, Germany, scheduled to run from September 5th to 10th. This news comes as a disappointment to those anticipating the presence of other prominent Stellantis brands such as Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, and Jeep, all of which sell vehicles in Europe.

A spokesperson from Stellantis confirmed to Auto News Europe that Opel’s focus at the event will be on highlighting its shift towards electrification. Opel plans to seize this opportunity to publicly showcase the Astra Sports Tourer Electric for the very first time. Additionally, the recently unveiled 2024 Corsa Electric will also be on display.

Opel has disclosed that the Corsa Electric will offer two powertrain options. The entry-level variant features an electric motor producing 134 hp and providing a range of 222 miles (357 km). Alternatively, customers can opt for a more powerful version, equipped with a 154 hp electric motor and a 54 kWh battery pack, enabling the compact hatchback to achieve a range of 252 miles (406 km).

The powertrain specifications of the Astra Sports Tourer Electric closely resemble those of the Corsa Electric. It too employs a single front-mounted electric motor with 154 hp and 199 lb-ft (270 Nm) of torque, drawing power from a 54 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The Astra Sports Tourer Electric boasts a quoted range of 258 miles (416 km) and can be charged to 80% capacity in just 30 minutes using a 100 kWh DC fast charger.

Opel has also tantalized attendees with news of a surprise third model to be unveiled at the Munich event, although further details have yet to be revealed. Automotive enthusiasts and industry professionals alike eagerly anticipate the opportunity to witness Opel’s contributions to the electric vehicle landscape and their commitment to embracing sustainable mobility solutions.
