ONERugged, the rugged computing brand of Emdoor Information, has expanded its Vehicle PC (VPC) product line with in-vehicle computers designed for agricultural machinery and mining vehicles. The systems support applications ranging from automated farm steering to integration with fully autonomous mining trucks, the company announced on October 16.

The expansion targets industrial environments where onboard computers must operate reliably while processing positioning, vehicle and sensor data.

Computers for Precision Agriculture and Autonomous Mining

ONERugged’s smart farming tablet is designed to serve as the hardware core for automated and assisted driving systems in agricultural vehicles. It supports centimetre-level positioning and integration with autonomous steering systems, while controlling implements such as seeders, fertilizer spreaders and sprayers.

For mining applications, the company’s vehicle tablet aggregates data from infrared and laser sensors. Its functions include driver-behaviour monitoring, 360-degree surround-view capabilities for detecting pedestrians and obstacles, and cloud-based reporting of anomalies.

The system is also designed to integrate with new-energy mining vehicles and fully autonomous mining trucks, according to ONERugged.

Rugged Hardware and Connectivity

The expanded VPC range includes the V80J, V80T, V10J, V10T and V12R models, available in 8-inch and 10.1-inch configurations.

Key features across the product line include:

  • Vehicle connectivity: CAN bus support for communication with vehicle systems.
  • Industrial connectors: Aviation-grade or Deutsch connectors, depending on the configuration.
  • Operating systems: Support for Windows, Android and Linux.
  • Environmental protection: IP65-rated protection against dust and water jets.
  • Durability: Shock and vibration resistance designed to meet ISO 16750 requirements for road vehicles.

These capabilities are intended to support deployment in demanding agricultural and mining environments, where equipment is exposed to vibration, dust, moisture and changing operating conditions.

Winery Uses Vehicle PC for Automated Spraying

ONERugged cited New Zealand winery Cloudy Bay as a customer using its V10J vehicle computer. The installation combines high-precision GPS with a cloud management system to support automated spraying and data tracking.

The application illustrates how rugged onboard computing can connect precision positioning, equipment control and operational data management in agricultural settings.

Supporting the Shift Toward Autonomous Operations

The product expansion comes as autonomous vehicle systems gain traction in mining and other industrial sectors. Self Drive News reported in September that Volvo Autonomous Solutions had transported more than 3 million metric tons autonomously at mining and quarrying sites in Europe.

While onboard computers are only one component of autonomous operations, they provide an interface for processing vehicle information, connecting sensors and coordinating equipment functions. ONERugged’s expanded line is aimed at these requirements across both agricultural machinery and mining fleets.
