One (Our Next Energy), an electrification technology research company based in Michigan, USA, announced that their prototype Gemini-001 Prototype EV Battery has been tested on a Tesla Model S and is capable of traveling 1,210 km (752 miles) on a single charge. .
The experimental test was carried out on December 17, 2021 by swapping the Tesla Model S battery for the Gemini-001 Prototype.
The Tesla Model S with the prototype EV Battery traveled back and forth from Detroit to the Mackinac Bridge at an average speed of 88.5 km/h (55 Miles/hour).
The Model S was also tested indoors with a minimum friction dyno, with no climbs and no stops, resulting in 1,419 km (882 miles) on a single charge at the same average speed.
“We wanted to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles by eliminating range anxiety, which holds most consumers back today,” said ONE Founder and CEO, Mujeeb Ijaz, who is a battery systems engineer.
“We are now focused on developing this proof-of-concept battery into a new product called Gemini. This enables long-distance travel on a single charge, while increasing cost efficiency and safety using sustainable materials.”
Ijaz concluded that their product succeeded in doubling the energy available in the same dimension of space.
This Gemini chemical battery made by ONE has a capacity of 203.7 kWh and a high energy density of 416 Wh/L. To maximize reach, One equips it with artificial intelligence (AI).
For comparison, the Tesla Model S Long Range Plus has a factory default battery with a capacity of 103.9 kWh with a maximum range of 652 km (405 miles) only.
ONE is a Start-up Company that focuses on accelerating electrification. Founded in July 2020 by combining many experienced electrification experts.
According to its official website, one.ai, the company has received support from many large companies, including Assembly Ventures, BMW i Ventures, Volta, Flex, and Breakthrough Energy.
At the end of 2022 ONE will start production of its first product called ‘Aries’, a 79 kW battery which has 3000 Life Cycle.
While the prototype production model of the Gemini battery is targeted to launch in 2023. The production version of the Gemini is estimated to be able to support a range of up to 700 miles or 1,126 km on a single charge if used in large SUV-type cars.
