Electric cars accounted for a record 97.2% of new passenger vehicle registrations in Norway in July, driven by strong deliveries of battery-powered models, according to data from the Norwegian Road Traffic Information Council (OFV).
A total of 9,291 electric cars were registered last month out of 9,563 new vehicles, surpassing the previous monthly high of 91.9% set in July 2024.
In the first seven months of 2025, all-electric cars made up 94.1% of registrations, up from 85.6% a year earlier.
Hybrid vehicles — both plug-in and full hybrids — accounted for 1.7% of July’s registrations, while diesel cars represented 0.9% and petrol models 0.3%.
Over the January-July period, hybrids had a 4.3% share, diesels 1.3% and petrol cars 0.4%, all down from last year.
July registrations rose 48% from a year earlier, aided by long-awaited vehicle deliveries and manufacturer discount campaigns, OFV said. The Tesla Model Y, built in Germany, led with 715 registrations, followed by the Skoda Enyaq (574), VW ID.4 (408) and BYD Sealion 7 (380).
Half of the top 10 models, including the Ford Explorer, VW ID.3 and VW ID.7, were based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform.
