Norway saw a record 10,940 new electric vehicles (EVs) registered in November, representing 93.6% of all new car registrations for the month. This marks a significant increase from November 2023, when 8,442 new EVs were registered, corresponding to 81.6% of the market. The surge in EV registrations remains consistent with the previous month’s figures (10,862), reflecting the continued shift toward electric mobility in the Nordic country.

In total, 11,689 new cars were registered in November, a 13.0% year-over-year increase. Of these, only 749 vehicles had non-electric drivetrains, with 154 plug-in hybrids (1.3% market share), and the remaining 595 being either petrol, diesel, or non-rechargeable hybrids. This indicates that 94.9% of all new cars in Norway now feature a charging connection.

Norwegian authorities are pushing to maintain this momentum, with Øyvind Solberg Thorsen, Director of the Norwegian Road Information Authority (OFV), emphasizing the importance of sustained policy support. “To meet the 2025 target for zero-emission vehicles, policy, taxation, and incentives must be maintained,” Solberg Thorsen said. He acknowledged that achieving 95% EV market share may be realistic for now but cautioned that infrastructure and vehicle diversity must continue to evolve.

The dominance of EVs is reflected in November’s best-sellers, with the Tesla Model Y leading with 1,491 new registrations, followed by the Model 3 with 764. The Volkswagen ID.4 secured third place with 755 registrations. Notably, all top models in November were electric, unlike in previous years when hybrid vehicles made it to the top of the list.

For the year-to-date, the Model Y leads the pack with 14,926 new registrations, accounting for 13% of all new cars in Norway. The second and third positions are still up for grabs, with the Volvo EX30 (6,623 registrations) currently ahead of the ID.4 (6,544) and Model 3 (6,197). December could see a shift in rankings, with the Toyota bZ4X closely trailing behind with 5,901 registrations.
