North Lincolnshire Council is taking a big step towards achieving their goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030 with the installation of 35 AC on-street charging points in the area. The council has partnered with Shell subsidiary Ubitricity to install and manage the public charging infrastructure.
The charging points will consist of a combination of bollard and street lamppost chargers, and will have charge capacities of up to 5kW. Cllr Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, expressed his excitement about the initiative, saying “Residents are now becoming more conscious of their carbon footprint, with more people converting to electric vehicles to contribute to improving emission levels. We are excited to implement this government-led initiative and enable easy access to charge points for residents.”

The installation of these charging points is an important part of the council’s “A Greener Future” plan, which includes measures to improve the city’s walking and cycling infrastructure, as well as adding other mobility options. The council hopes to encourage more residents to switch to greener modes of transport.
Toby Butler, UK Managing Director of Ubitricity, highlighted the importance of this partnership, saying “The momentum of EV infrastructure deployments across the UK continues to build, with more and more councils and local authorities helping residents to make the shift to greener modes of transport. We’re delighted to have added North Lincolnshire Council to our growing list of council partners, paving the way for residents who want to switch to EV.”

Ubitricity has been actively installing kerb-side charging stations in the UK lately, with a recent contract announcement in West Suffolk earlier this month, as well as a major contract in Liverpool in January. In February, the charging company enabled ‘smart charging’, using off-peak charging rates on their stations.
The new charging points in North Lincolnshire will be installed where off-street parking is not available, and will use the power supply from streetlights. Cllr Rob Waltham is encouraging residents to voice their opinions on where the charging points should be installed, saying “now we need to know where residents would like to see them installed.
