Nissan announced a significant price reduction for its 2024 Ariya electric SUV. The move, effective immediately, sees the starting price for the Ariya drop to $39,995, making it more accessible to a wider range of consumers.

The decision comes as Nissan aims to capitalize on the growing demand for EVs in the United States. Sales of the Ariya have been strong, with 3,765 units sold in the fourth quarter of 2023 alone, bringing the total number of Ariya SUVs handed over to customers last year to 13,464. This marks a substantial increase compared to the company’s decade-old LEAF electric hatchback, which saw only 7,152 units handed over in 2023, representing a 40% year-over-year decrease.

Despite a rocky start to Ariya production, Nissan’s new Intelligent factory, where the SUV is manufactured, is now operating smoothly. The company attributes this improved efficiency to new production methods and technologies, which have resulted in a 10% reduction in costs compared to previous processes.

Trisha Jung, senior director of EV strategy and transformation at Nissan US, commented on the price reduction, stating, “As the electric vehicle market continues to develop and grow, the revised pricing for the 2024 Ariya will improve the model’s competitiveness and ensure we are delivering maximum value to our customers.”

The 2024 Nissan Ariya is available in two battery sizes (63 kWh or 87 kWh) and offers the option of front-wheel drive (FWD) or Nissan’s dual-motor e4ORCE all-wheel drive (AWD) system. The 2024 model boasts an impressive EPA-estimated range of up to 304 miles on a single charge.

In response to Ford’s recent announcement regarding Tesla Supercharger access, Nissan revealed plans to offer a NACS adaptor for the Ariya later this year, further enhancing the SUV’s appeal to potential buyers.
