Nissan preparing stops the production of EV pioneer Leaf, report says

Ironically, the Nissan Leaf as one of the pioneers of electric cars in the world will soon stop production due to stagnant sales. Nissan’s flagship electric car was first released in 2010.

The moment was very special because no major manufacturers had bet on making electric cars. Only Nissan dared to bring the Nissan Leaf to market.

The acceptance of Japanese-made electric cars itself isn’t exactly bad. Even now, Nissan claims that the electric car has sold more than 500,000 units. This is a fantastic number for an electric car, which was not so popular when it was first launched.

It’s just that a decade later, sales of the Nissan Leaf have stagnated. The Automotive News site even mentions that sales of the Nissan Leaf in the United States are far behind its competitors.

Last year, based on Axios data, there were only 14,239 Nissan Leaf units brought home by US consumers. Whereas in 2021 the total sales of electric cars in the United States will reach 977,639 units.

The fact is that this phenomenon does not occur in the United States alone. In various other countries, Nissan Leaf sales are actually the most distended compared to other electric car manufacturers. Even in Indonesia, the same thing happened because the Nissan Leaf was actually far behind the electric cars made by Hyundai in terms of sales.

Automotive News mentions these considerations that make Nissan will stop production of the Nissan Leaf. The car company based in Yokohama, Japan seems to have felt bedtime for the Nissan Leaf has come.

Confirmed by The Verge, Nissan representatives refused to mention that the electric car will be euthanized. According to him, they are studying new tastes in society regarding the Nissan Leaf.

“We are observing the new tastes that occur at the Nissan Leaf regarding the increase in demand for electric cars and its overall benefits. For us since its launch, the Nissan Leaf has consistently provided satisfaction to consumers,” explained Stephen Oldham, a spokesman for Nissan quoted by The Verge.

Although they do not agree with the Nissan Leaf’s lethal injection, Nissan actually has another focus. Currently, Nissan also has another weapon in the electric car segment, namely the Nissan Ariya.

Nissan targets to make 23 new electric cars by 2030. Of those new electric cars they seek to control 40 percent of global electric car sales by 2040.
