Nissan has officially started production of the Qashqai e-Power and Juke Hybrid in Sunderland. Built with one of the electric vehicle pioneers Nissan Leaf, every model made by Nissan in the UK now has an electrified version.

Production of models with internal combustion engines Nissan Qashqai and Juke in Sunderland passed the five million mark.

The Qashqai e-Power and Juke Hybrid are the result of bundling and investment from both Nissan and its suppliers in the Sunderland region. The Qashqai e-Power and Juke Hybrid are a first for the factory in Sunderland.

“With over five million customers, the Qashqai and Juke are two of our most successful and popular factory models ever,” said Alan Johnson, Nissan’s UK vice president of manufacturing.

Nissan itself has a target of electrification by producing only electric vehicles in Europe starting next year, as the Sunderland factory will produce a new electric flagship model ‘EV36Zero’.
