NIO has just held the second annual NIO Power Day event with a focus on introducing the company’s latest plans regarding charging
Qin Lihong, co-founder and president of NIO said that the company has developed 500-kW ultra-fast charging piles with a peak current of 650 A which will begin installation in China and Europe by the end of this year.
NIO implies that the ultra-fast charger has 20kW more charging power than its competitors.
It should be noted that NIO vehicles have also supported fast charging like other electric vehicles, apart from the battery swap that has been their trademark so far.
Qin also said the company’s third-generation battery swap station will have a larger capacity and more flexible layout.
Development of the third generation battery swap station is nearing its end and is being piloted. Qin said the third-generation battery swap station will be at the end of the year or early next year.
NIO recently operated 12 new battery exchange stations in China, bringing it to a total of 1,011 and officially crossing the 1,000th milestone.
The NIO battery swap station can store up to 13 batteries and has the capability of serving a maximum of 312 battery swaps.
