NIO, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has implemented a series of changes in an effort to stimulate sales. Starting from June 12, the company has reduced the starting prices of its entire lineup of models by RMB 30,000 ($4,200). However, one previously complimentary service, the battery swap option, will now be offered as a paid service.

Under the revised pricing structure, the entry-level model ET5 sedan will be available at a starting price of RMB 298,000. Alternatively, customers can choose to lease the battery using the BaaS (Battery as a Service) plan, reducing the initial price to RMB 228,000.

NIO’s recently launched ES6 model, which debuted last month, will now start at RMB 338,000 under the new pricing system, or RMB 268,000 under the BaaS model.

Customers who place a deposit for a new NIO vehicle starting today will enjoy several benefits. These include a 6-year or 150,000 km warranty for the first owner, a 10-year unlimited mileage warranty for the motor, electric control, and electric drive systems, 6 years of free internet connectivity with 8GB of monthly internet traffic, and lifetime roadside assistance.

Furthermore, customers who place a deposit for the new ES6 or ES8 models on or before July 31 will still receive a complimentary home charging pile.

The previously free battery swap service will no longer be included as a standard benefit, but consumers will have the option to purchase it separately. NIO plans to introduce flexible charging and battery swap service packages to accommodate varying customer needs.

Customers placing a deposit for a new NIO vehicle between June 12 and July 31 can choose to pay RMB 30,000 for an upgraded service package. This package includes four free battery swap services per month, a 10-year unlimited mileage warranty on the vehicle, lifetime free car internet connectivity with 8GB of monthly traffic, and lifetime free roadside assistance.

Moreover, customers who place a deposit for the new ES6 or ES8 models on or before July 31, and who also purchase the service package, can choose to forego the free home charging pile and receive an increased number of free battery swap services, totaling six per month.

For customers who have already placed orders but have yet to receive delivery, NIO will assume they have purchased the upgrade package and maintain the original purchase price. However, customers can contact NIO’s specialists to cancel the upgrade package prior to delivery, resulting in a reduction of RMB 30,000 in the purchase price.

Existing NIO owners will continue to enjoy their current benefits, and if they decide to purchase another NIO vehicle, they can transfer the benefits from their original vehicle to the new one. By giving up the original free battery swap service of four or six times per month, they can receive a discount of RMB 30,000 on their new NIO model.

For owners who previously had unlimited free lifetime battery swaps, they can receive a discount of RMB 50,000 on the purchase of a new NIO vehicle if they choose to forgo this benefit.

NIO currently operates 1,484 battery swap stations and has provided over 22.9 million free battery swap services in China. Additionally, the company has installed 15,881 charging piles across the country.
