Nio has announced the rollout of its Navigate on Pilot Plus (NOP+) driver assistance feature to all vehicles based on the NT 2.0 platform, following a preview that began 10 days ago.

Owners of Nio vehicles on the NT 2.0 platform can now enable the full-domain NOP+ feature, covering urban roads and highways, by upgrading their onboard system to Banyan 2.6.0, the electric vehicle (EV) maker revealed today.

According to a post on the Nio App, vehicles equipped with NOP+ can autonomously complete driving tasks such as lane changing, overtaking, speed regulation, and intersection passing under the driver’s monitoring. This feature covers highways, urban expressways, and urban roads.

Nio emphasized that while NOP+ can help users save energy and reduce accidents, it remains an assisted driving feature and not autonomous driving. Users are required to drive in accordance with traffic regulations and be prepared to take over when necessary.

The company advised against using NOP+ in bad weather, on roads with complex construction, at intersections with heavy pedestrian-vehicle mixing, and at intersections with cluttered lane lines and complex configurations.

NOP+ is an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) feature developed by Nio on its NT 2.0 platform. It is the successor to NOP, which enabled pilot assist driving on highways.

Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li announced on April 20 that NOP+ functionality in urban areas would begin to be available to all NT 2.0 platform-based vehicles starting April 30.

By the end of March, Nio had delivered 228,935 vehicles on its NT 2.0 platform, according to Li’s keynote slides at the time.

Nio aims for NOP+ to contribute 80 percent of all driving time by 2025 for NOP+-enabled owners.

To use the feature, users must complete a learning task to understand NOP+’s capabilities. Nio’s vehicle systems rate a user’s driving behavior based on the last 30 days of smart driving data. Users need to have 100 kilometers of smart driving usage in the last 30 days to receive a score.

If a user’s score is 70 or higher, they will have access to the total verified mileage that exceeds 1 million kilometers. If the score is below 70, their available mileage for NOP+ is limited to about 500,000 kilometers of verified urban main roads.
