NIO today opened 12 new battery swap stations bringing the grand total to 1,011 and passing the 1,000th milestone.
The 1,000th battery exchange station opened in Lhasa, the Tibetan autonomous region in Southwest China. The battery swap station is the highest so far.
The battery swap station is the first to use 100 percent clean energy from photovoltaic or hydroelectric power, the company said.
Lhasa is a city with plenty of sunshine, and Tesla built a new supercharger station in the city last year that uses solar power.
Battery swap stations increased from 200 to over 1,000 in 15 months. The average company opens two facilities into operation each day.
NIO’s initial 200 battery exchange stations are first-generation facilities, and the company put the first second-generation battery exchange stations into operation on April 15, 2021, making it NIO’s 201st battery exchange stations.
To date, NIO has 1,011 battery exchange stations in mainland China. Reaching the 1,000th battery exchange station milestone was the result of support from NIO partners, the company said.
