Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio said it will expand into seven additional European markets over the next two years, deepening its global footprint through a partnership-based distribution model.

The company announced Tuesday that it will enter Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, and Romania in 2025 and 2026. “We’re working with local distributor partners to make this growth possible,” Nio said in a post on social media platform X. “At the same time, we’re introducing a multi-brand offering with both NIO and Firefly to reach even more users.”

The expansion adds to Nio’s existing presence in Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark. The company first entered Europe in 2021, beginning with Norway, where it opened its first Nio House showroom on October 1 of that year. Since then, it has launched several models including the ES8, ES7, ES6, ET7, ET5, and ET5T, though it later renamed its ES series to the EL series due to a trademark dispute with Audi.

In recent months, Nio has focused primarily on its home market, China, while also developing its two sub-brands. Onvo launched the L60 in September 2024, while Firefly introduced its first model in April. Although Firefly was originally intended to debut in Europe, Nio delayed the launch due to rising import tariffs.

According to Nio President Qin Lihong, Firefly will now enter Europe between June and August, with plans to expand to around 20 overseas markets by year-end. A right-hand drive version is expected by October.
