Nio said on Thursday it has produced its two millionth electric drive unit, marking a new manufacturing milestone for the Chinese electric vehicle maker as it expands in-house production of key components.
The 2 millionth electric drive rolled off the production line on March 5 at Nio’s second electric drive manufacturing plant in Hefei, Anhui province. The unit will be installed in the company’s flagship sport utility vehicle, the all-new ES8, Nio said.

The milestone comes just 23 months after the company produced its first million electric drives in March 2024, reflecting a faster pace of industrial production.
Nio currently operates two electric drive manufacturing plants in Hefei, where its main vehicle production facilities are also located. The first plant reached the 500,000-unit milestone in July 2022 before surpassing one million units in March 2024.
The second plant, located in the NeoPark industrial zone, features highly automated production lines with a comprehensive efficiency rate of 94% and a product pass rate of 99.6%, according to the company.

Nio said the facility’s intelligent manufacturing system and large-scale production capacity will help support stable deliveries of the new ES8.
The latest ES8 is equipped with a 900-volt high-performance electric drive system, which Nio said is the world’s first motor to use 925-volt continuous wave winding technology.
With a starting price of 406,800 yuan ($59,030), the ES8 is one of Nio’s key premium models and plays an important role in the company’s current product lineup.
