Nio has launched a new five-seat version of its flagship ES8 sport utility vehicle (SUV), expanding the model lineup with a lower-priced variant designed to appeal to a broader range of customers.
The electric vehicle maker unveiled the model at an event on Thursday, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin on July 10.
The five-seat ES8 is available in two trims. The Executive Luxury version starts at 382,800 yuan with battery purchase included, or 274,800 yuan under Nio’s Battery as a Service (BaaS) subscription program.
The Executive Signature version is priced from 422,800 yuan, or 314,800 yuan with the BaaS option.
The entry price is 24,000 yuan, or about 5.9%, lower than the starting price of the third-generation three-row ES8.
Larger Cargo Space
The new model measures 5,280 mm in length, 2,010 mm in width and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm.
Removing the third-row seats significantly increases storage capacity. The SUV offers a 230-liter front trunk and a 1,334-liter rear cargo area, expanding to a maximum of 3,084 liters with the second-row seats folded.
Nio said the rear cargo space is the largest in its class and provides more than twice the loading capacity of conventional large SUVs.
Premium Features
The second-row seats feature reclining functionality with heating, ventilation and 16-point massage, while the front seats offer aviation-inspired zero-gravity seating with 20-way power adjustment.
Built on a 900-volt electrical architecture, the five-seat ES8 uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing a combined 520 kW (697 hp).
The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and comes standard with a 102-kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC driving range of up to 655 kilometers.
The vehicle also features the latest version of Nio’s Cedar operating system, the company’s in-house Shenji NX9031 intelligent driving chip and the Nio World Model (NWM), enabling point-to-point navigation assistance.
Sales Performance
The launch follows strong market performance for the third-generation ES8, which reached its 120,000th customer delivery in June.
According to Nio, the ES8 has led China’s large SUV segment in the 400,000-yuan price category for six consecutive months.
However, June deliveries declined to 8,969 units, down 21.9% from May, as some buyers delayed purchases ahead of the launch of the new five-seat variant.
