Nio gets sued by Audi over ES6 and ES8 model name

Audi filed a lawsuit against Nio for trademark infringement in a Munich court, German newspaper Handelsblatt reported Thursday, June 16, 2022.

The Nio trademarks in question are ES6 and ES8. Audi considers the two Nio trademarks to violate their trademark which has named production the S6 and S8.

Nio, the premium brand that has so far made most of its sales in China, entered the Norwegian market in May last year and plans to launch its models in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark before the end of the year.

The company started sales in Norway with the ES8 model but said it plans to launch in Germany with the ET7 electric sedan.

On June 15, Nio announced the launch of the ES7 electric crossover. This electric car is equipped with a battery with a range of up to 850 kilometers on a single charge. This car will be delivered to consumers in China starting August 28, 2022.
