A new regulatory filing has disclosed details about the battery specifications and range of Firefly, the first model from Nio’s sub-brand, confirming its position as a premium small electric vehicle.
According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Firefly model, designated as NAL7000BSEVY1, is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) with battery swap capability.

It features a 42.1-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by Sunwoda, marking the first collaboration between the battery manufacturer and Nio. The vehicle has a range of 420 kilometers under China’s CLTC standard and an electricity consumption rate of 10 kWh per 100 kilometers. The energy density of the battery pack is 134 Wh/kg.
Firefly weighs 1,492 kg, with the battery pack accounting for 314 kg. It is powered by a single motor from Nio’s XPT division, delivering a peak power of 105 kW and a top speed of 150 km/h. The five-seater hatchback measures 4,003 mm in length, 1,781 mm in width, and 1,557 mm in height, with a 2,615 mm wheelbase.

Nio unveiled the Firefly brand during Nio Day 2024 on December 21, positioning it as a premium compact EV to compete with BMW’s Mini and Mercedes-Benz’s Smart. The model went on pre-sale in China for RMB 148,800 ($20,490) and is set for launch in April, with an eye on the global market.
