Nio said that its battery swap service has surpassed 80 million cumulative uses in China, reaching the milestone less than four months after hitting the 70 million mark in April.

The electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer reported an average of approximately 97,000 battery swaps per day so far in July. According to the company, a vehicle currently completes a battery swap at one of its stations every 0.88 seconds.

Nio operates 3,405 battery swap stations in China, including 1,000 located along major highways. Since the launch of its first swap station in Shenzhen in 2018, the network has delivered more than 4.2 billion kWh of electricity.

The company said that battery swap stations now provide more than half of the electricity used by its vehicles. It also estimates that battery swaps have resulted in total energy cost savings of approximately RMB 20.9 billion ($2.9 billion), and have reduced average charging time compared to public facilities.

In March, Nio announced a partnership with battery supplier CATL to expand the battery swap network further. In addition to battery swap infrastructure, Nio operates 2,896 supercharging stations and 1,778 destination charging stations in China, providing over 26,700 charging ports.
