Czech automaker MW Motors has unveiled its latest foray into the electric vehicle market with the Spartan EV 2.0, representing the company’s second electromod build. Departing from its inaugural edition based on the Russian UAZ Hunter, the Spartan EV 2.0 takes the Force Gurkha 4×4 from India and undergoes a comprehensive transformation, replacing the traditional combustion engine with a robust fully electric powertrain.
Designed and homologated as a light commercial vehicle (LCV), the Spartan EV 2.0 is strategically positioned to cater to a diverse range of industries, including agriculture, forestry, extreme sports, mining, and nature conservation. Externally, the Spartan EV 2.0 closely mirrors the Force Gurkha’s aesthetic, featuring a distinctive fully covered grille and specific emblems.
The utilitarian interior is marked by hard plastics, cloth-upholstered seats, an infotainment touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, manual air conditioning, and electric windows, ensuring a practical and functional cabin. Notably, the EV boasts a pickup-matching load capacity of 1,025 kg and a substantial towing capacity of 3,000 kg, reinforcing its versatility for various applications.
Underneath the familiar exterior lies the stock ladder-frame chassis of the Force Gurkha, complemented by coil-spring suspension. The significant departure, however, comes in the form of an electric powertrain, replacing the original 2.6-liter diesel engine. The single electric motor delivers an impressive 174 hp and a substantial 1,075 Nm of torque. The Spartan EV 2.0 maintains its off-road capabilities with a transfer case transmitting power to either the rear or all four wheels. Manual locking differentials on both axles contribute to its traditional off-road prowess.
The power is supplied by a 61 kWh battery pack sourced from China, providing a claimed driving range of over 240 km (150 miles) on a single charge. Positioned under the hood, the battery design preserves interior space. Noteworthy is the fast-charging capability, reaching up to 90 kW, allowing a 30-minute charge from 20% to 80%. The battery also supports V2L bi-directional charging, enabling the Spartan EV 2.0 to power external tools and electronic devices from a standard 230V slot.
The Spartan EV 2.0 is currently available in the UK with a price tag of £49,995, positioning itself as a robust and electrified alternative in the market. The General Manager of MW Motors affirmed that the vehicle retains its 4×4 capabilities without compromising on-road ride quality, describing it as “comparable to any other car that you will see on a highway.”
MW Motors, known for its innovative electric vehicle solutions, is poised for further expansion in the electric vehicle segment. The company’s upcoming venture includes the debut of the retro-inspired Luka EV sportscar, expected to make its entry later this year.
