Motiv Power Systems Launches Second Generation Electric Trucks for Medium-Duty Fleets

Motiv Power Systems, a leading provider of electric trucks for medium-duty fleets, is launching the second generation of its innovative vehicles. Building on the previous generation, the new electric trucks will be “engineered to meet today’s fleet needs while embracing the latest EV technology.

According to Motiv, the second-generation electric trucks will feature a new motor and battery system. The company worked with Nidec to design and patent a six-phase motor, which is said to offer torque that surpasses that of combustion engine vehicles. The battery system will use LFP batteries, which are capable of reaching a 200-mile range on a single charge, with the base version rated at a 150-mile range.

Fleets will have the option to select two or three battery packs to suit their range needs, while the new Motiv electric vehicles can also be modified to meet customers’ design requirements. For example, the charge port can be located in various locations to make it easy for the fleets to charge, depending on the charging infrastructure used.

In March 2022, Motiv announced a partnership with Our Next Energy (ONE) for battery development. The new batteries will be used for a new platform for Motiv vans, trucks, and buses from early 2023. The scalable architecture provided by ONE will allow for series and parallel configurations, and at least 3,000 recharge cycles. The integrated Battery Management System (BMS) will protect against overcharging. The resulting new 156 kWh battery system will take up 30% less volume than its current 127 kWh configuration.

The new generation of electric trucks can already be purchased, with first deliveries scheduled for as early as June. This is a significant milestone for the electrification of medium-duty fleets, as it offers a practical and reliable alternative to traditional combustion engine vehicles. With Motiv’s innovative technology and commitment to sustainability, it is no surprise that the company continues to be at the forefront of the electric vehicle industry.
