EV charging software company Monta has joined ChargeUK, the British trade association for the electric vehicle charging industry, as an Associate Member, the organisations said on Tuesday.
Monta, which operates a charging platform with more than half a million users across Europe, said the move highlights its commitment to “open, interoperable and intelligent charging.” The company plans to contribute technical expertise to policy discussions and infrastructure development in the UK.
“With less than five years until the 2030 deadline, the UK EV sector is at a pivotal moment. Being part of ChargeUK will allow Monta to collaborate with other members to help shape policy, unlock more investment and expand access to quality EV charging,” said Jon Evans, Head of Market, UK & Ireland at Monta.
ChargeUK Chief Executive Vicky Reid said: “Having Monta onboard is yet another example of the desire within the EV industry to come together and support the transition to EVs by ensuring that convenient and affordable charging is rolled out at pace.”
Evans added that while adoption is moving in the right direction, “the real challenge lies in the software layer that connects and optimises charging. Without scalable, data-led systems, infrastructure will not keep up with demand.”
ChargeUK, established in 2023, began with 18 companies pledging to invest more than six billion pounds in EV charging by 2030, the date the UK plans to phase out combustion engine cars. Its membership has since more than doubled and includes Tesla, Ionity, BP Pulse, Shell Recharge and TotalEnergies.
Founded in 2020, Monta raised 80 million euros from investors last year and expanded into the United States. Its software platform also enables hardware manufacturers to benchmark charging stations, analyse performance and reduce troubleshooting times.
