Spanish energy and mobility company Moeve said on Sunday it now operates fast chargers at 100 motorway service stations across Spain and Portugal, making it the largest provider of motorway-based high-power charging points in the Spanish market. The company currently has 220 high-power charging (HPC) points in operation, with another 200 built and awaiting regulatory approval for public use.
Each of Moeve’s HPC points delivers a minimum charging power of 150 kW, with card payment available at all locations without the need for an app. The chargers are distributed along five key transport corridors, including Spain’s A-7 Mediterranean Corridor, the A-66 Plata Route, and routes connecting Portugal with France via the A-62, AP-1, and AP-8. Approximately 70% of the locations are in Spain, while 30% are in Portugal.
“We are taking advantage of the full potential of our network by placing service stations in strategic locations, ensuring accessible charging points for electric vehicle users,” said Isabel Gorgoso, director of new mobility at Moeve. “Our goal is also to be recognised as a quality operator, providing our customers with the best possible experience through ultra-fast charging, which saves them valuable time.”
The company, formerly known as Cepsa, rebranded to Moeve in December 2024 as part of a broader shift toward low-carbon operations. Since the transition, Moeve has sold off the majority of its oil production assets and invested in green energy initiatives, including a 2-gigawatt green hydrogen project and a biofuels plant in Andalusia. Moeve previously operated over 1,800 petrol stations across the Iberian Peninsula, many of which are now being retrofitted to include electric vehicle chargers and modernized customer amenities.
Usage data released by the company suggests strong weekend demand. In Spain, charging peaks at midday on Saturdays with an average session lasting 33 minutes and delivering 68 kW. In Portugal, the highest usage occurs on Sunday afternoons, with average charging times of 34 minutes and 57 kW delivered. The figures point to slightly lower average output in Portugal, potentially reflecting charger availability or site-specific constraints.
Moeve app users can also access a wider European network of 90,000 charging points via interoperability agreements with providers such as Ionity, Zunder, Endesa, EnBW, Emovili, and others. These agreements span multiple countries including France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, and Poland.
