The Microlino, an electric microcar that has been turning heads since its unveiling nearly eight years ago, is getting a stylish makeover with the introduction of the Microlino Spiaggina. This latest iteration, showcased at the Paris Motor Show, redefines the concept of a city car by combining retro aesthetics with modern electric technology. Designed for Europe’s most popular summer destinations, the Spiaggina is the embodiment of fun, fashion, and functionality.
Unlike conventional cars, the Microlino falls under the L7e category of quadricycles in Europe, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 90 km/h (56 mph) while bypassing many of the stringent regulations required for larger passenger vehicles. Despite its diminutive size, the Microlino prioritizes safety, utilizing automotive-level design and fabrication principles to create a sturdy chassis that protects its two occupants. This safety-conscious approach ensures that drivers can enjoy the freedom of this compact vehicle without compromising security.
The Spiaggina draws heavy inspiration from classic beach cars such as the Fiat 600 Jolly and Citroen Mehari. In a nod to those vintage designs, the Spiaggina features an open-top setup, offering drivers and passengers an unobstructed view of their surroundings. For those who prefer a bit of shade, a fabric canopy is also available. The interior of the vehicle is outfitted with high-quality vegan leather, specially developed to withstand moisture, making it ideal for coastal drives and beach adventures. “This makes it perfect for coastal drives or a day at the beach,” said the company, underscoring its thoughtful design for sun-soaked locales.
Merlin Ouboter, Co-Founder of Microlino, expressed his excitement about the Spiaggina’s debut, saying, “The Microlino Spiaggina is an idea we’ve had in mind for years, and it’s finally become a reality. It will be the most stylish vehicle for Europe’s summer destinations like Portofino, St. Tropez, or Ibiza.” The Spiaggina’s launch marks a significant milestone for the company, as it looks to blend nostalgia with the growing demand for eco-friendly transportation.
Beneath its retro-inspired exterior, the Microlino Spiaggina retains the same drivetrain and performance features as previous Microlino models. Powered by a 12.5 kW motor, the Spiaggina can reach a top speed of 90 km/h (56 mph). Its 10.5 kWh battery offers a range of up to 177 kilometers (110 miles), allowing drivers to cruise through their favorite coastal towns without worrying about frequent recharging. Charging is simplified with a 2.2 kW onboard charger, which can replenish the battery from a standard household outlet. For those in need of a quicker charge, a higher-power charger can reduce the charging time to just 2-4 hours.
Measuring only 2.5 meters (8’3″) in length, the Microlino Spiaggina is perfectly suited for navigating tight city streets and parking in spaces where larger vehicles wouldn’t fit. Despite its compact size, the vehicle doesn’t sacrifice practicality, offering 230 liters (8 cubic feet) of storage space in the rear. This makes it a practical option for weekend getaways or quick trips to the beach.
The Microlino Spiaggina’s world debut at the Paris Motor Show marks the start of a new chapter for the electric vehicle, and those interested in this chic runabout can place reservations for the €24,990 microcar. Deliveries are expected to begin early next year, giving drivers the opportunity to hit the road in style just in time for summer. With its blend of retro design and modern performance, the Microlino Spiaggina promises to be one of the most fashionable electric vehicles for Europe’s sun-drenched destinations.
