MG’s upcoming electric city car, the MG2, is expected to start at about £20,000 (roughly €23,000), positioning it as the brand’s most affordable electric model when it reaches the market, according to a report citing company officials.

AutoExpress, quoting MG UK Head of Product and Planning David Allison, said the vehicle will be unveiled in the second half of 2026 but is not expected to go on sale until 2027. The model will sit below the MG4 in MG’s electric lineup, becoming the entry point to the brand’s battery-electric range.

Earlier indications suggested a launch as early as 2025 at a similar price point, though subsequent reports had pointed to a higher starting price of around £25,000. The latest information suggests MG is targeting a lower price again, while focusing on delivering strong value rather than a disruptive budget offering.

Technical details remain limited. The report indicates the MG2 may be based on the E3 platform used by the MG4 Urban, a front-wheel-drive model currently sold in China. That vehicle features cell-to-body battery integration with capacities of 41.9 kWh or 52.8 kWh, a design aimed at improving efficiency and packaging.

If adopted for the MG2, the platform could help keep costs low while maintaining practical range for urban use. The MG4 Urban is among the most affordable electric vehicles in the UK market, with pricing starting just above £23,000.

MG has not confirmed specifications, production plans or availability outside the UK. It is also unclear whether the MG2 will be introduced in continental European markets such as Germany.
