MG Motor is making waves in the electric vehicle market with its latest release, the MG4 XPower. This top-of-the-line model boasts an impressive 320 kW all-wheel drive, with the front electric motor contributing 150 kW and the rear motor providing 170 kW.
Acceleration is a breeze for the MG4 XPower, as it can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. With the equivalent of 435 hp and 600 Nm of maximum torque packed into a compact 4.29-meter-long model, this comes as no surprise. While MG has not revealed specific details about the battery in their announcement, they have mentioned a WLTP range of 385 kilometers. However, British media reports from June suggest that the XPower will utilize the well-known 64 kWh battery found in the rear-wheel drive version, enabling a maximum charging power of 140 kW and a charging time of approximately 26 minutes (from 10 to 80 percent). Customers in the UK can place their orders for the MG4 XPower starting in mid-July, with prices starting at £36,495.
Design-wise, the MG4 XPower maintains a sense of restraint while showcasing its power. As the most potent vehicle based on the modular scalable platform (MSP) to date, it closely resembles the familiar MG4 variants. There are no exaggerated sporty features like a prominent front apron or a special rear spoiler. Instead, MG describes the design as “subtle.” However, the inclusion of larger rims and eye-catching orange-painted brake calipers helps distinguish the MG4 XPower. Those who opt for the all-wheel-drive version will have the exclusive choice of “Hunter Green” as a paint finish.
Technological advancements in the MG4 XPower go beyond the powertrain. For the first time in an MG vehicle, a dynamic cornering control system has been introduced. This system includes an electronic limited-slip differential and intelligent engine management, enabling torque vectoring among all four wheels. The result is maximum traction and exceptional stability in a wide range of driving scenarios. Additionally, the MG4 XPower features a retuned spring/damper setup, stiffer anti-roll bars, and more responsive steering, providing drivers with an exhilarating experience. The braking distance has also been improved to 33.9 meters.
“We’re confident the MG4 XPOWER will disrupt the market just like the MG4 SE and Trophy, proving that a compact EV can be affordable, practical, and an incredible driving machine,” says Guy Pigounakis, Commercial Director at MG Motor UK. “We believe it will appeal to customers seeking a pure performance offering that stands apart from the traditionally ‘loud’ high-performance hatchbacks.”
