Mercedes-Benz is poised to offer its electric cars with rooftop solar panels in 2024. Plans for using this technology came from the Media Conference, where Markus Schafer, CTO of Mercedes-Benz, spoke about the new Vision EQXX.

“So customers may have a choice in the future, to choose a complete, uninterrupted glazed roof or a solar roof which is very aesthetically appealing, but also benefits from adding energy to the battery,” said Schafer.

If the implementation of the solar panel roof on the Mercedes Vision EQXX really happens, it will be very helpful. Under ideal conditions, these solar panels will add a range of up to 15.5 miles.

In comparison, the Ioni5 solar roof with European specifications, is claimed to only add a little, or about more than 3 miles per day. While the roof solar belongs to the Kia Sonata hybrid, adding about 2 miles per day.

“We worked with the German research institute Fraunhofer, who jointly developed the highly efficient rooftop solar panels that we install on our vehicles, and that’s the idea with future series vehicles, perhaps starting in 2024 with an increase in the number of rooftop solar panels on Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Benz,” added Schäfer.
