Mercedes-Benz is reportedly preparing to expand its battery-electric GLC lineup with two additional variants, adding new powertrain and battery options to its latest electric sport utility vehicle.
The electric GLC, which debuted at the IAA 2025 and is based on Mercedes-Benz’s new MB.EA-M platform, has so far been offered exclusively as the GLC 400 4MATIC. The model features a 360-kW all-wheel-drive system, a 94-kWh battery and a starting price of 71,281 euros in Germany.
According to reports from JESMB and MBpassion, Mercedes-Benz plans to open order books for two new variants on June 9, with first customer deliveries expected before the end of the year.
Two New Variants Expected
The new additions are expected to be the GLC 250 EQ and the GLC 300 4MATIC EQ.
Reports indicate the GLC 250 EQ will feature a rear-wheel-drive configuration paired with a 260-kW electric powertrain. The GLC 300 4MATIC EQ is expected to retain all-wheel drive while delivering 310 kW of output, positioning it below the current GLC 400 4MATIC flagship.
While the naming structure mirrors that used in other Mercedes-Benz electric models, the power outputs differ from those found in the electric CLA and GLB ranges.
Smaller Battery Planned
Both upcoming variants are expected to use a smaller battery pack offering 85 kWh of usable energy capacity, compared with the 94-kWh battery fitted to the GLC 400 4MATIC.
Mercedes-Benz already uses the 85-kWh battery in other models built on its latest 800-volt electric vehicle architecture.
The battery supports DC fast charging at up to 320 kW, allowing charging from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes under ideal conditions. AC charging is limited to 11 kW, with a full recharge taking roughly nine hours.
Additional Models Could Follow
Reports suggest Mercedes-Benz may introduce two further electric GLC variants later this year.
One of those models is expected to be the GLC 300+ EQ, combining a rear-wheel-drive system producing 270 kW with the larger 94-kWh battery currently used in the GLC 400 4MATIC.
Another entry-level variant is reportedly under development with a 230-kW rear-wheel-drive powertrain and a 64-kWh usable battery, potentially making it the most affordable electric GLC in the range.
Broadening the MB.EA-M Portfolio
The expansion of the electric GLC lineup would give Mercedes-Benz a wider range of configurations aimed at attracting customers seeking different combinations of performance, driving range and pricing.
The GLC with EQ Technology is the first production model based on the automaker’s MB.EA-M platform, which is intended to underpin a new generation of premium electric vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz has not officially announced pricing for the new variants, and details remain subject to confirmation when orders are expected to open later this month.
