Mercedes-Benz is facing delivery waiting times of around six months for its all-electric CLA and GLC models as demand for its latest electric vehicles exceeds expectations. To support production, the automaker’s battery assembly plant in Kamenz, Germany, has operated six days a week on a three-shift system since June.
Electric CLA Records Strong European Registrations
According to figures published by Handelsblatt, citing market researcher Dataforce, the all-electric CLA has recorded more than 71,000 registrations in Europe since its market launch in September 2025, averaging approximately 5,400 units per month.
The figure compares with an average of around 3,500 monthly registrations for the previous-generation CLA, which was available only with an internal combustion engine, between 2021 and 2024.
Mercedes-Benz has not released individual sales figures for the electric CLA and GLC, but its latest quarterly results point to broader growth in electric vehicle demand.
Mercedes-Benz BEV Sales Increase in Q3 2026
Mercedes-Benz Group recorded 78,100 battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales between July and September 2026, up 24% from the second quarter and 52% from the same period in 2025.
Electric vehicles accounted for 16.8% of Mercedes-Benz passenger car sales in the third quarter, compared with 9.6% in the second quarter of 2025.
Mercedes-Benz sales board member Mathias Geisen said the company achieved its highest-ever quarterly sales of all-electric vehicles, driven in part by the electric GLC, whose sales more than tripled compared with the previous quarter.
“Our new electric models – GLC, CLA, GLB, and GLA – are sold out in Europe for the rest of the year, with order books extending into 2027.”
Geisen said the results reflected the company’s expanding electric model lineup and continued sales growth outside China.
Battery Production Ramps Up to Meet Demand
Mercedes-Benz subsidiary Accumotive has increased operating hours at its Kamenz battery assembly plant in Saxony to help secure traction battery supplies. The facility has been running six days a week across three shifts since June.
The production ramp-up follows earlier supply and component challenges affecting the electric GLC, which initially limited deliveries of the mid-size SUV. The GLC and CLA are now registering stronger volumes, according to German and European market data.
In Germany, both models entered the top 10 for new electric vehicle registrations in September, with more than 2,000 registrations each. Dataforce figures cited by Handelsblatt also showed nearly 7,400 European registrations for the electric GLC that month.
For comparison, the previous combustion-engine GLC reached a monthly peak of approximately 6,500 registrations in its strongest sales year, 2025.
More Electric Models Planned
Mercedes-Benz is expanding its electric lineup with battery-powered versions of the C-Class, GLA and GLB reaching European roads. The company is also reportedly preparing additional models for the coming years.
According to information reported by Handelsblatt, an all-electric E-Class is planned for unveiling at the IAA Mobility show in Munich in September 2027, followed by an electric A-Class in 2028.
The expanding lineup could further increase demand for Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles. In the near term, however, the company’s priority is to increase production and battery availability as delivery schedules for the CLA and GLC extend into 2027.
