Mercedes-AMG Petronas is one of the teams that have implemented trials of biofuel fuels in their haul trucks. They experimented with running 16 trucks using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO 100) biofuel.
The use of biofuel HVO 100 is reported to reduce a total of 44,091 kg of CO2 released, which means an emission reduction of up to 89%.
HVO 100 is a 100% renewable fossil fuel derived from vegetable oils, waste oils and fats. In addition to reducing fuel CO2 emissions, it also produces fewer Nox and particulate emissions. Reportedly this is an innovation to make conventional machines remain environmentally friendly in the future.
The Mercedes-AMG Petronas team has a goal of becoming Net Zero by 2030, in line with F1’s future goals, and has become the first team to invest in Sustainable Aviation Fuels.
“Sustainability is at the core of our operations. The trial use of biofuels for our land transportation is another example of our commitment to embedding sustainability,” said Toto Wolff, Team Head of Mercedes-AMG Petronas.
