McLaren Applied, a British technology company, took home four awards at the E-Mobility Awards ceremony at the British Motor Museum. The company was awarded the overall “Prix d’Honneur” and the “Emobility/EV Design and/or Engineering Team” award. They also received Merit Awards in the “Emobility Electronics/Software Team” and “Emobility/EV Engineering Ingenuity” categories. The awards recognize the hard work that went into developing the McLaren Applied IPG5 800V silicon carbide inverter, a compact and efficient inverter for electric vehicles.
The IPG5 inverter offers a high power density and motor control, and is the result of over a decade of innovation in high-performance automotive and motorsport applications. The inverter is highly controllable and offers variable switching frequencies and excellent motor response, making it ideal for efficient and lightweight drivetrains.
According to Shakeel Meharban, Director of Automotive at McLaren Applied, the awards celebrate the team’s dedication in bringing the IPG5 inverter to market, offering carmakers the opportunity to differentiate their EVs. The IPG5 inverter can power electric motors up to 400kW peak, 250kW continuous, while adhering to ISO 26262 ASIL-D standards. The company believes efficiency is the next wave of electrification and the IPG5 inverter helps OEMs achieve this by improving drivability and adding character to electric vehicle powertrains.
