Mazda has revealed a sporty new version of its all-electric EZ-6 sedan, ahead of its planned global rollout later this year. The model, which is already on sale in China starting at under $20,000, has been designed with younger drivers in mind and features distinct performance-inspired styling.

Launched in China on October 26, 2024, through Mazda’s joint venture with Changan, the EZ-6 initially entered the market at a base price of 139,800 yuan (approximately $19,900). Nearly 2,500 units were sold in its first month, positioning it among the top three mid-sized new energy sedans from joint venture brands in the Chinese market.

At a recent event in Nanjing, Mazda showcased a new sporty edition of the EZ-6, developed collaboratively by Mazda teams in Japan, Europe, and China. The updated variant includes black wheels and side skirts, red brake calipers, and a blacked-out cockpit interior with suede seats and red stitching.

“This new version is designed for younger consumers who want a dynamic look and feel in their electric vehicle,” Mazda said in a statement.

The EZ-6 is offered with both all-electric (EV) and extended-range electric (EREV) drivetrains in China. The EV model, based on Changan’s hybrid platform, offers a maximum range of 600 km (CLTC) and fast charging capabilities of 30% to 80% in around 15 minutes.

Mazda has also confirmed plans to export a global version, named the 6e, with production already underway at its Nanjing facility. European customers will have the option of a 68 kWh or 80 kWh battery, with WLTP-rated driving ranges of up to 479 km and 552 km, respectively.

Measuring 4,921 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,491 mm in height, the EZ-6 is roughly the same size as the Tesla Model 3. Pricing for the new sporty variant has not yet been announced.Credit: Mazda
