Maserati, the Italian luxury car manufacturer, has announced that it will be replacing two of its current models, the Quattroporte and the Ghibli, with an all-electric Quattroporte in 2024. The new sedan will be Maserati’s third electric car after the GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore, but it will be the first to be offered solely with an electric powertrain.
Maserati is taking a bold step in becoming the first Italian supercar manufacturer to offer only an electric version of its signature vehicle. The company has set an ambitious target to sell only electric cars by 2030, and the all-electric Quattroporte is a clear sign of things to come.
The new Quattroporte will be based on the STLA Medium platform, and with a length of between 4.9 to 5.2 meters, it will sit between the outgoing Quattroporte and Ghibli in size. Maserati has access to a wide range of EV components, thanks to its parent company, Stellantis Group.
The all-electric Quattroporte will feature a new powertrain with more than 1,000 horsepower, making it a direct competitor to the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan. The underpinning STLA platform suggests that the new Quattroporte will have much in common with the upcoming Alfa Romeo Giulia, which is also expected to have an all-electric version with around 1,000 horsepower.
With a price tag of around $150,000, Maserati believes that the new Quattroporte will be priced to compete in a lower segment than the GranTurismo Folgore, which sits at the top of the Maserati range with a price tag of over $215,000.
Maserati’s decision to replace two of its current models with an all-electric Quattroporte is a clear indication of the company’s commitment to electric vehicles. With an ambitious target to sell only electric cars by 2030, Maserati is leading the way for Italian supercar manufacturers to transition to a more sustainable future.
