MAN Truck & Bus has introduced its electric heavy-duty truck, the eTGX, to the UK market. Following its sales launch in continental Europe in October 2023, the German truck and bus manufacturer has garnered nearly 2,000 order inquiries and orders for its eTGX and eTGS versions.
The MAN eTruck is now available for order in the UK. To mark the occasion, MAN Truck & Bus UK collaborated with Sunswap to host a driving event featuring a left-hand drive vehicle with a German registration plate. The event also showcased the combination of the electric tractor unit with a specially developed battery and a solar-powered Sunswap refrigerated trailer.
While continental Europe offers both the eTGS and eTGX models, MAN Truck & Bus UK is initially launching only the MAN eTGX 4Ă2 eTruck. This battery-electric tractor unit features the same drive technology as the eTGS chassis model. Customers can choose from four, five, or six battery packs, with energy contents of 320, 400, or 480 kWh, respectively. The smallest battery provides a range of up to 260 kilometers, suitable for typical distribution transport needs. The 480 kWh option extends the range to 400 kilometers for long-distance transport. MAN anticipates a charging stop (CCS with up to 375 kW, and MCS with up to 750 kW in the future) for an 800-kilometer daily range. The eTGS model also offers a three-battery pack option for a 195-kilometer range, ideal for shorter distribution routes.
In addition to battery and cab options from the GX and GS series, MAN offers extensive customization for its customers. Options include nine different wheelbases, six cab variants, steered and non-steered trailing axles, leaf, air, and full air suspension, specialized driving programs, and various industry-specific features. The introduction of the eTGS at IFAT in Munich this spring has expanded the configurable variants of the MAN eTruck to over one million.
MAN Truck & Bus recently announced its largest single order for the MAN eTruck to date: 100 units will be delivered to the French logistics company Jacky Perrenot. The company has received nearly 2,000 inquiries and orders for the eTGX and eTGS versions within seven months of their sales launch.
“The new site is the next step for ElringKlinger in the implementation of its SHAPE30 transformation strategy. The American market generally offers great potential for e-mobility applications, and we have already received a first high-volume series nomination,” explained CEO Thomas Jessulat. “When it comes to unlocking this potential, the US state of South Carolina is an optimal starting point for the establishment of the Groupâs Battery Center Americas, as yesterdayâs talks with Governor McMaster once again underlined.”
