Spanish public transport operator EMT Valencia has placed an order for 84 new city buses from MAN Truck & Bus, comprising 57 all-electric Lion’s City 12 E units and 27 hybrid articulated buses. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in phases from the end of 2026.

The deal represents the largest electric bus order for MAN in Spain to date. It was awarded under a larger public tender in which EMT Valencia sought a total of 161 new buses as part of a wider investment strategy aimed at decarbonising its fleet by 2028. MAN was awarded two of the four lots in the tender process, with the contract valued at approximately €50 million. This figure includes vehicle supply as well as maintenance services.

The electric Lion’s City 12 E buses currently come with four or five battery packs, each with a capacity of 89 kWh, providing a total energy storage of up to 445 kWh. MAN also noted that a future variant featuring six battery packs for a total of 534 kWh will become available, although specific configurations for the EMT Valencia order have not been disclosed.

The remaining 27 buses are hybrid articulated models from the Lion’s City 18 EfficientHybrid series. Further technical details for these vehicles, including battery specifications or expected operational ranges, will be confirmed closer to delivery.

This order forms a part of EMT Valencia’s €170 million investment programme, which targets the procurement of 218 new electric and hybrid buses by 2028. According to the company’s transition plan, diesel-only vehicles will account for less than 7% of its fleet by 2027, with hybrids comprising around 61% and fully electric models approximately 32%.

MAN reports that more than 2,500 vehicles from its Lion’s City E product line have been delivered across Europe within the past six years, accumulating over 100 million kilometres of service. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, the company delivered 283 electric buses, accounting for more than half of its city bus sales in Europe during that period.
