Luxury electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors is in negotiations with Genesis, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, to supply its high-performance electric drive system for an upcoming sports car model. If the deal is finalized, Genesis will join Aston Martin as a partner of Lucid Motors in utilizing its cutting-edge electric drive technology.
Aston Martin, known for its luxury sports cars, has already signed a deal with Lucid Motors to use its dual-motor drive unit, battery technology, and the Lucid charging system, known as the ‘Wunderbox,’ in a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform. This collaboration is set to enable Aston Martin to produce a range of electric models, including hypercars, sports cars, GTs, and SUVs, with the first BEV model expected in 2025.

Details about Genesis’ upcoming electric sports car are limited, but looking at Lucid’s existing models provides some insights. Lucid recently introduced its Gravity electric SUV, featuring a 900-volt architecture, a range of up to 440 miles, and acceleration from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The Lucid Air electric sedan is available in various configurations, with the ‘Pure AWD’ model boasting 353 kW of output and the ‘Touring’ variant capable of up to 456 kW.
Genesis has also made moves in the performance sector, launching a performance subsidiary named Magma, which has unveiled several concept cars. The recent appointment of Manfred Harrer, with over 25 years of experience in the automotive and technology industry, as Executive Vice President and Head of the newly established Genesis & Performance Development Tech Unit, signals Hyundai Motor Group’s commitment to enhancing its mobility brands.
