Lucid unveiled details of its new Gravity SUV, highlighting an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 450 miles, made possible by Panasonic Energy’s advanced lithium-ion battery cells. The luxury electric SUV is described by Lucid as offering a unique blend of performance, efficiency, and spaciousness.

The Gravity Grand Touring model will feature Panasonic’s high-energy-density 2170 cylindrical battery cells, with an energy density exceeding 800 Wh/L. These batteries enable a compact design, reducing the battery pack size by up to 40% while maintaining long range and expanding interior space. With up to 120 cubic feet of cargo capacity, the Gravity positions itself as a practical yet luxurious full-size SUV.

Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson emphasized the vehicle’s innovation, stating, “The Lucid Gravity is the first SUV that does not force customers to compromise.” The collaboration with Panasonic, which began in 2022, focuses on optimizing battery performance, safety, and longevity to align with Lucid’s goal of redefining luxury electric vehicles.

Production of the Gravity Grand Touring model began in December 2024 at Lucid’s Arizona facility, with a starting price of $94,900. Later this year, the automaker plans to launch the Gravity Touring trim, priced at $79,900, which will also incorporate Panasonic’s cutting-edge battery technology.

Panasonic currently manufactures these battery cells in Japan but is expected to transition production to its new facility in Kansas to support expanding partnerships. With over 10,000 vehicles delivered in 2024, up 70% from the previous year, Lucid continues to solidify its position in the luxury EV market.
