Lucid Motors outlined initial details of its upcoming mid-size electric vehicle lineup, including two sport utility vehicles and a robotaxi concept, as the company seeks to expand beyond the premium segment and improve its path to profitability.
The U.S.-based electric vehicle maker said the new range will include three model series, two of which will be SUVs named Lucid Cosmos and Lucid Earth. The Cosmos is positioned as a sportier offering, while the Earth will focus on balancing performance and practicality. A third, as-yet-unnamed model is expected to cater to more off-road-oriented use cases, according to company disclosures during a recent investor day.

Lucid has previously said it aims to introduce more affordable electric vehicles with base prices below $50,000, marking a shift from its current lineup of luxury models, the Air and Gravity. The new mid-size vehicles are expected to retain the company’s design identity while adopting more cost-efficient production methods.
“These vehicles deliver unmistakable Lucid design and driving characteristics, while embracing a radically simpler, more efficient approach to manufacturing and cost,” said Derek Jenkins, Senior Vice President of Design and Brand at Lucid.

The company said the models will be built on a new mid-size platform featuring a next-generation electric drivetrain, known as Atlas. Lucid indicated the system could enable acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds and deliver an efficiency of approximately 4.5 miles per kWh. It added that improved efficiency would allow for smaller battery packs, although it did not disclose specific range targets.
Lucid also introduced a concept for a two-seater autonomous vehicle, called Lunar, based on the same platform. The company said the concept “highlights the potential of the company’s Midsize platform to support future autonomous and commercial applications.” It added that it is in advanced discussions with Uber regarding potential deployment of such vehicles at scale, similar to its existing robotaxi-related plans involving the Gravity model.

The announcements come as Lucid faces financial pressure to accelerate revenue growth. In February, the company said it would reduce its workforce by about 12% as part of broader cost-cutting measures. During the investor presentation, executives emphasized near-term priorities including scaling production of the Gravity SUV, expanding into new global markets, and enhancing software and service offerings.
Lucid also outlined plans to introduce additional software features, including an in-vehicle artificial intelligence assistant, alongside continued development of autonomous driving capabilities.
“Lucid has already proven its capabilities through technology and product leadership,” said Marc Winterhoff, Interim Chief Executive Officer at Lucid. “Today, we’re keeping the same Lucid product and technology DNA intact, while applying increased scale, capital efficiency, and cost discipline, and materially reduced costs, to enable a great business with a clear and credible path to profitability and free cash flow, supported by what we are executing now and what we are building for the future.”

The company did not provide a firm timeline for the launch of the mid-size models but said prototype units are already being assembled at its headquarters in Casa Grande, Arizona. Previous statements from Winterhoff suggest that series production could take place at Lucid’s manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia.
