After much anticipation and years of teasers, Lucid officially revealed its first all-electric SUV, the Gravity, on Thursday. Priced under $80,000 and boasting a maximum range exceeding 440 miles, production is slated to commence in late 2024.
Positioned as a luxury electric SUV without compromise, the Gravity offers seating for up to seven passengers or, with folded second and third rows, an expansive 112.0 cubic feet of storage space. Capable of handling over 1,500 pounds of payload and towing up to 6,000 pounds, Lucid claims a rapid 3.5-second sprint to 60 mph without a trailer attached.
The SUV’s impressive acceleration is attributed to a new platform built from the ground up, featuring Lucid’s 900-volt electrical architecture. The battery pack, described as smaller, lighter, and more sustainable, can reportedly add up to 200 miles of range in approximately 15 minutes. Lucid also touts the most power-dense electric motors currently in production.
For off-road enthusiasts, an optional air suspension system named Zero Gravity automatically adjusts to varied terrain needs, offering both automatic and manual height adjustments.
Lucid places a significant focus on the Gravity’s interior, emphasizing an experience “designed for both the body and the mind.” The addition of Lucid Spaces allows drivers to transform the cabin into a serene oasis, displaying scenic visuals on cabin screens, adjusting lighting, and playing ambient sounds through the speaker system.
Similar to Lucid’s Air sedan, the Gravity features a dashboard dominated by screens, including a massive 34-inch gauge cluster. The exterior design mirrors its Air sibling, with a sleek and stylish aesthetic.
While Lucid has disclosed the starting price and maximum range, details on pricing for different range options remain unclear. Drawing comparisons to the Air sedan, expectations are for the sub-$80,000 Gravity to achieve a high 300-mile range, with the 440-mile version likely entering the six-figure range.
