US electric vehicle maker Lucid Group reported a decline in first-quarter deliveries for 2026, citing a supplier-related issue that temporarily disrupted shipments of its Gravity SUV.

The company said it delivered 3,093 vehicles during the January–March period, down 42% from the previous quarter and slightly below the same period last year. Production, however, remained higher at around 5,500 units, reflecting a gap between output and deliveries.

Lucid attributed the decline to a quality issue involving second-row seats in the Lucid Gravity, which halted deliveries for 29 days. The issue also led to a recall of more than 4,000 vehicles after the company identified improperly welded seat belt anchors, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Company spokesperson Nick Twork told TechCrunch that the disruption stemmed from an unapproved change made by a supplier, prompting a temporary stop-sale in February to ensure vehicle quality before deliveries resumed.

“Following eight record quarters, we showed strong results in both January and March which very nearly achieved year-over-year growth on their own,” Twork said, highlighting that the slowdown was concentrated during the affected period.

Lucid said the issue has now been resolved and does not expect it to affect its broader production plans. The company reaffirmed its 2026 production target of between 25,000 and 27,000 vehicles, compared with 18,378 units produced in 2025.

The setback comes as Lucid prepares to expand its product portfolio with a new lower-cost platform aimed at the mass market. The upcoming model, expected to be priced around $50,000, will compete with vehicles such as the Rivian R2, Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3 and Chevrolet Equinox EV.
