Lucid Motors introduced its latest electric vehicle, the Gravity SUV, poised to be one of the longest-range electric SUVs on the market with an impressive 440 miles (708 km) of driving between charges. Notably, the automaker has hinted at an upcoming special edition model that could push the boundaries even further.
Lucid, known for its Air sedan and the extended-range Dream Edition, has set ambitious goals for the Gravity. Despite featuring approximately half the number of battery cells compared to some competitors, the company suggests that there is potential for increased capacity, leading to speculation about a longer-range edition.
When questioned about the possibility of a lengthier range Dream edition, Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson neither confirmed nor denied, stating, “I won’t be denying it. Am I that predictable?” Details regarding the specific mileage of the envisioned special edition remain undisclosed at this time.
Lucid had previously promised a 400-mile (644 km) range with the Air, but the Dream Edition surpassed expectations, achieving an EPA-certified range of 520 miles (837 km). Rawlinson, while not specifying production numbers, hinted that a Gravity Dream Edition could be limited to over 440 units.
With production scheduled for late 2024, Lucid has ample time to refine and potentially unveil further special edition models. Key details about the standard Gravity, such as battery size and horsepower, are yet to be disclosed. However, the Gravity’s already known features, including a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 3.5 seconds, 440 miles (708 km) of range, spacious cargo capacity exceeding 112 cubic-feet, and a sub-$80,000 starting price, position it as an impressive SUV regardless of potential future editions.
