This is not the first time we have seen spy shots of the upcoming Lotus Envya, but it is the first time we have seen the prototype equipped with side-view cameras in place of mirrors. As of now, the use of side-view cameras on vehicles is illegal in China, however, the Chinese government will permit the new technology on cars beginning July 1.
It is possible that this is the reason why Lotus is testing the Envya in China with the cameras and working on incorporating them into the current Eletre EV.
Aside from the cameras, there is not much new information to be gleaned from the recent photos. The Envya appears to share a similar design to its larger counterpart, the Eletra. The interior also remains largely a mystery, as previous leaks provided more detailed information.
Given that the car is being tested with side-view cameras, it is likely that the car will be officially announced in the second half of this year. The Eletre, on the other hand, is expected to hit the roads on July 1.
