The Lotus Emeya R+, also known as the Emeya 900, has set a new electric vehicle lap record at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, completing the 5.5-kilometre circuit in 2 minutes 20.317 seconds.
Lotus said the lap, recorded on July 20, 2026, was more than seven seconds quicker than the previously reported fastest electric vehicle lap of 2:27.790 at the circuit.

Lap Demonstrates Vehicle Performance
The record-setting run was completed by grand touring driver Daniel Lu.
According to Lotus, the Sepang circuit’s combination of long straights and technical corners provided a test of the vehicle’s acceleration, braking, aerodynamic performance and chassis dynamics.
The company said the Emeya R+ incorporates aerodynamic features designed to manage airflow over, beneath and through the vehicle.
Lotus noted that the aerodynamic concept, which it describes as using airflow “porosity,” was first introduced on the all-electric Evija hypercar and has since been applied to other models, including the Emira.

Focus on Electric Performance
Lotus said the Emeya R+ applies technologies developed through the company’s motorsport and performance engineering programs to its battery-electric vehicle platform.
“The Sepang result directly reflects both the engineering team’s dedication and the automaker’s longstanding commitment to driver engagement and performance,” said Chong Yok Meng, Senior Director for Chassis and Vehicle Dynamics at Lotus.
“The result demonstrates that Lotus’s electric vehicles embody the same core dynamic principles that have defined the company for generations.”
The company said the lap record forms part of its broader effort to carry its performance-focused engineering approach into its future electric vehicle lineup.
