Lotus Eletre spotted during final test drives in Germany ahead of European launch

Lotus is gearing up for the launch of its highly-anticipated electric SUV, the Eletre, in Europe. The automaker has been spotted carrying out final test and tuning drives in Germany, shortly before the start of deliveries.

Photos taken by electrive’s editors show a lightly camouflaged Eletre on the road in the greater Frankfurt area. While the production version of the Eletre was already unveiled in March 2022, Lotus has decided to keep the vehicle under wraps for its final tests in Germany.

The electric SUV was seen with a licence plate from the district of Groß-Gerau, which is home to the Lotus Tech Innovation Centre. Lotus likely chose this number plate to avoid drawing too much attention to the Eletre. However, the vehicle’s characteristic rear design, complete with roof spoilers, gave it away.

Interestingly, Lotus did not go to great lengths to obtain the Groß-Gerau number plate, suggesting that the automaker is not overly concerned about being spotted. In the past, automakers have registered their prototypes at the headquarters of competitors via subsidiaries or special service providers to throw off observers.

With the Eletre expected to hit the European market soon, these final tests and tuning drives are crucial for ensuring that the electric SUV is ready to impress buyers. Lotus is hoping that the Eletre will make a big splash in the crowded electric SUV market, and these tests will play a key role in determining its success.
