Swiss-based Lion E-Mobility AG announced progress in its development of the “Lion Light” battery, featuring an advanced immersion cooling technology.

The battery recently underwent rigorous tests in collaboration with a German premium automotive manufacturer, with Lion reporting that the technology exceeded performance expectations under high-stress conditions.

The 400-volt Lion Light battery utilizes direct cell cooling, or “immersion cooling,” a method that aims to enhance battery efficiency and stability. According to Lion, recent tests confirmed the battery’s resilience in extreme environments, marking a significant milestone in its path toward series production. Dr. Joachim Damasky, CEO of Lion E-Mobility, highlighted the achievement, stating, “The successful completion of the high-temperature tests confirms the technical superiority of our battery with immersion cooling. We are very proud of this milestone and are now looking forward to preparing for series production.”

The project manager of the premium car manufacturer involved in testing noted that the Lion Light battery is currently the only solution meeting the company’s specific requirements, underscoring its potential for broader market adoption.

After recent track tests in July 2024, the Lion Light battery demonstrated a 30% performance improvement compared to the current market standard, with versions available for both 400-volt and 800-volt systems.

Lion E-Mobility now plans to initiate series production and is in discussions with potential partners and investors to support the market launch of its innovative battery technology.
