A Li Mega electric MPV from Li Auto caught fire and was completely destroyed in Shanghai on October 23, according to Chinese automotive outlet Dianchejie.

The fire reportedly began in the vehicle’s chassis, where the CATL-made battery pack is located. Li Auto said it is cooperating with local authorities to determine the cause.

The incident occurred in the city’s Xuhui District while the vehicle was in motion. Dianchejie reported that there was no collision prior to the fire and that the flames engulfed the vehicle within seconds.

The driver and passenger escaped unharmed after the doors opened automatically. Images from the scene showed that only the metal frame of the vehicle remained.

The Xuhui Fire Department confirmed the fire but did not release further details. This marks at least the third reported Li Mega fire in China since mid-2025, though previous incidents were linked to external causes.

Launched in March 2024, the Li Mega is Li Auto’s first battery electric vehicle. It features a 102.7-kWh CATL Qilin ternary NMC battery, dual-motor all-wheel drive, and up to 710 km of range under CLTC standards. The seven-seat MPV is priced between 529,800 and 559,800 yuan ($74,340–$78,550).
