Kia popular compact crossover SUV hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) model, the Niro, has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 1 million global sales since its debut in 2016, the company announced on Feb. 25.
By the end of 2023, global cumulative sales were close to 998,000 units, with January’s domestic sales totaling 1,241 units and exports exceeding 10,000 units, bringing the total to 1,008,822 units. Over 80% of Niro sales have originated from overseas markets.
In South Korea, sales reached 23,475 units, while overseas sales reached 145,617 units, totaling 169,092 units last year.
Kia’s Niro lineup includes various options: a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) introduced in 2016, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) launched in 2017, and an EV model introduced in 2018.
The second-generation Niro, launched in 2022, prioritizes fuel efficiency and integrates eco-friendly materials and technologies. Additionally, in 2022, Kia unveiled the Niro Plus, its inaugural purpose-built vehicle (PBV), further expanding the Niro family.
