Kia Motors, a renowned automaker, has reported a significant increase in its global vehicle sales for the month of June. According to the latest figures released by the company, sales rose by an impressive 7.2% year-over-year, reaching a total of 278,256 units. This positive trend is reflective of Kia’s strong performance in the first half of 2023, where the company managed to sell a remarkable 1,575,920 vehicles, representing a substantial 11% increase compared to the same period last year.
Exciting news surrounds the company’s foray into the all-electric car market as well. Recently, Kia launched its highly anticipated Kia EV9 model in South Korea, with plans to initiate deliveries in global markets in the near future. This introduction has been met with enthusiasm from both automotive enthusiasts and eco-conscious consumers alike.
Regarding all-electric car sales, June witnessed the Kia EV6 model’s wholesale sales, closely tied to production, reaching 9,217 units, demonstrating a remarkable 65% increase compared to the previous year. These figures were consistent with the sales numbers achieved in April and May, underscoring the sustained popularity of the Kia EV6.
Furthermore, June marked a significant milestone for Kia as it saw the commencement of volume deliveries of the Kia EV9. The company managed to distribute a total of 1,337 units, with 1,334 sold within South Korea and the remaining three exported to international markets.
It’s important to note that Kia’s sales figures are reported on a wholesale basis, which represents sales at the manufacturer level or plant sales. These numbers are unaudited and preliminary, providing valuable insights into the company’s overall performance.
The combined wholesale sales of the EV6 and EV9 models amounted to an impressive 10,554 units in June, showcasing the potential for high growth in this segment. Year-to-date, Kia has already surpassed the 56,000 mark in EV6 and EV9 wholesale sales, reflecting a substantial 38% increase compared to the previous year.
In addition to wholesale sales, Kia also disclosed its retail sales figures. The company reported a notable 6,083 retail sales of the Kia EV6 outside of South Korea, including 1,458 units sold in the United States. As for other electric car models, the retail sales figures outside of South Korea were as follows: 5,465 units for the Kia Niro EV, 13 units for the Kia Niro Plus EV, and 240 units for the Kia Soul EV. Additionally, two Kia EV9 units were sold in Europe. Unfortunately, specific numbers for Kia’s home market were not provided.
Overall, when considering both wholesale and retail sales data, Kia’s all-electric car lineup achieved a total of at least 14,516 units sold in June, representing a remarkable 25% year-over-year increase. These sales accounted for approximately 5.2% of Kia’s total sales volume during the same period.
Although Kia did not disclose numbers for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), it is evident that the company’s commitment to electric mobility is resonating positively with consumers. In 2022, Kia surpassed the impressive milestone of selling over 130,000 all-electric cars, highlighting its position as a key player in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market.
